Keep calm and blog on

Sunnuntai meni menojaan. Piti tehda sienikankaasta. Ajattelin viela etta legginssit ompelen sienista mekon seuraksi muttei tanaan sentaan aika riittanyt.
Meillakin pakkasessa on Vaasan Ruispaloja viela kolme pussia.
Reilu viikko sitten kuitenkin uhrasimme kolme palasta tata "arvokastakin arvokkaampaa" ja haluttua herkkua leipajuuren tekemiseen. Ruisleipajuuren. Se sai nimekseen Ukko. Ukko on jo kolmas juuri tassa talossa (Bo..b sai kaverikseen Jethron Iowasta). Kaikilla on omat piirteensa ja kaikki toimivat hyvin. Nyt nimittain mieheni kokeili Suomalaisen ruisleivan tekemista. Leivan paistuessa koko talo tuoksui ihanasti happaman ruukiiselle. Paivan odotus palkittiin ihanalla tuorealla ruisleivalla.
Huomenna pitaa yrittaa sitten napata kuvia. Katsotaan miten meidan malli suostuu yhteistyohon vai suostuuko ollenkaan.

Sunday came and went. However, it didn't go by so fast that it wouldn't have included feelings of success, anxiety and frustration. Meaning I did manage to sew a dress for the little one. It's still a bit too big but I think she can wear it already. I made Mekkotehdas book's Alviina dress with 3/4 length sleeves. I used the last of the Little Red Riding Hood fabric. It would have been nice to make the sleeves also from the same fabric but unfortunately I didn't have enough. I had to make the sleeves from the mushroom fabric I had. I thought about making leggins with the mushroom fabric as well but didn't have enough time. I did have to do some laundry, cook, wash dishes, and the kitchen counters are partly visible again (after my dearest husband spent some time in the kitchen baking again :D).
Finnish expats, well all expats around the world, know well the feeling when you cannot get the homey foods you're grown up with but cannot get unless you go visit in your home country or someone from there comes visiting. With the Finns I have a hunch that for most of the finnish rye bread is on top of that list. We too have Vaasan Ruispalat finnish rye bread in the freezer from our last visit to Finland.
About a week ago we "sacrificed" three pieces of this precious rye bread to making another bread starter. Rye bread starter. His name is Ukko. He's now the third starter in the house in addition to Bo..b and Jethro from Iowa. They all have their own characteristics and they all work well. My husband tried yesterday to make some finnish rye bread. When it was baking the whole house was full of wonderful sour rye smell. And then a day's wait was rewarded with fresh rye bread. The experiment was successful. We have now home made finnish rye bread. I don't have to pinch on when to have some from the freezer as we can now have as much as we want. How wonderful is that!
I don't have any pictures of todays' dress as the natural light was not enough. I'll try again tomorrow. Lets see if my little model will be co-operative.
