Lapset sai leikkia keskenaan. Yksi prinsessakin joukossa liihotteli ja ekaluokkalaiskaverukset touhusivat kylmassa saassa ulkona. Brrrrrr! Huomenna normaali koulupaiva. Onneksi jai viela vahan tippaleipia herkutteluun.
We have perfect Finnish vappu weather. +5C and it's raining. YIHAAA! ;) You know that there's no kinf od First of May celebrations here in US. It's a normal day. No one else but Finns and other scandinavians know about this and acknowledge it. I'm trying to keep bringing the Finnish celebrations and traditions in our house so that they girls would know about them but it's hard when no one else is celebrating.
We decided to celebrate today with another half Finnish family after school ended today. They had made sima (traditional drink for this celebration) and I made some tippaleipa (literally translates to drop bread). To best describe it it's like fried dough or funnel cake but crispier. And we did have some lemon cup cakes. It was all yummy!
The children got to play together. One princess was flitting about and the first grader buddies were playing outside in the cold weather. Brrrrrrr! Tomorrow is a normal schoolday (when in Finland it's a public holiday). At least we have few more tippaleipa to enjoy.
PS: When I was taking photos of the tippaleipa (on the floor) I had a litty buddy under the table ready for the moment when mummy's eye is on something else and he could charge like a rocket to get a treat. However, when I was taking picture of him he tried to be so cool and just minding his own business. :)
We were supposed to have a Vappu party at the boys' kerho today, but, again, the little one was too sick to go. :( He actually slept the whole morning. It looks like you had a most delicious time. Beautiful photos and I love that fabric!
VastaaPoistaHarmi ettei teidan vappujuhlat onnistunut. Hope Co-pilot is feeling better soon. I hate when they get sick. It was a yummy spread. And guess what, it's the kitchen towel that I got from you in the pictures. :D (Should have ironed it but I was lazy.)
PoistaActually it's not just the Nordics who celebrate 1st of May, it's quite big in Romania as well, we celebrate it there by going out on a picnic & bbq.
VastaaPoistaRomanians are in great company then. ;) I didn't know you celebrated it as well. So there are other out there as well. Not the Americans though.
